About this policy
This policy explains how RoleBug (rolebug.com) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and service or contact us.
Contact hello@rolebug.com with privacy questions or requests.
Information we handle
- Account details: your name, email address, verification and sign-in records, and account preferences. If you use a connected sign-in service, we receive the account information needed to authenticate you, such as your name, email address, and verification status.
- Your career information: resumes and other material you upload or paste, work history, skills, examples of your work, job preferences, location or work-eligibility information you provide, and answers used to understand your search.
- Your workspace: saved jobs and job descriptions, fit reviews, generated drafts, edits and document versions, application records, messages you save, interview updates, reminders, and feedback.
- Billing information: when you use checkout or subscription management, we receive payment status, plan and subscription details, transaction references, and customer identifiers from our payment provider. Payment details you enter in a hosted checkout or billing portal are handled by that provider. RoleBug does not store your full card number or card security code. Clearly labeled sandbox checkouts create test records, not real charges.
- Support communications: information you send us when asking for help or reporting a problem.
- Technical records: request times, IP addresses, browser and device information, session identifiers, errors, and usage or security records needed to operate and protect the service.
- Public information: job listings, company information, and research sources used for role discovery, market research, or a feature you request.
You choose what to include in your career materials. Please leave out government identification numbers, financial account details, health information, and other sensitive information that is unnecessary for your job search. Only include another person’s information when you have a lawful reason to do so.
How we use information
We use your information to create and secure your account; save your work; compare your experience with roles; generate and revise documents you request; organize your applications; manage subscriptions and payment records when you use billing; answer support requests; troubleshoot failures; prevent abuse; and meet legal obligations.
RoleBug does not submit applications or contact employers on your behalf. Your saved resume and workspace are not a public candidate directory. Our published hiring research and Marketing Skills Index are based on job-description research, not a publication of your private career materials.
Where a law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and securing it, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where required. You can withdraw consent by contacting us, without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
AI features and your documents
When you request an AI feature, relevant information is sent to AI service providers so they can perform that task. Depending on the feature, this can include your resume, work examples, preferences, a job description, instructions, and an earlier draft. RoleBug stores results and related request records so you can continue working and we can investigate failures.
We use third-party AI services and configure requests to restrict the use of content for model training where those controls are available. This does not mean providers keep no records: they may retain information for processing, security, or legal purposes under their service terms. Providers may change as the service develops. Contact us for information about the providers involved in processing your data.
AI-generated fit reviews and recommendations help you make your own decisions. RoleBug does not make hiring decisions for employers. You can edit or reject suggested wording before using it.
Cookies and browser storage
RoleBug uses cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, verify requests, and protect access. PostHog uses browser storage to recognize repeat visits and connect usage events; we honor the browser’s Do Not Track preference for PostHog. Browser storage also remembers preferences such as appearance and sidebar layout, and may keep unfinished work for recovery. These features are used to provide the service, rather than to target advertising.
You can clear cookies and site data in your browser. This may sign you out, reset preferences, or remove locally stored drafts. On shared devices, sign out and clear site data when you finish. If we introduce optional tracking that requires consent, we will provide the required choice before using it.
Retention and account deletion
We keep saved career information and document history while your account is active so you can return to your work. We retain technical and support records only for as long as needed for their purpose, considering security, troubleshooting, legal duties, and disputes.
You can request account deletion in Settings or contact hello@rolebug.com. Account deletion removes your account and its associated private application records and files from our active systems. Active requests may need to finish first, and we may ask you to verify your identity. Limited records may remain where legally necessary or in backups until those backups expire. Providers may retain their own operational records under their policies. Copies you downloaded or shared outside RoleBug are not removed by deleting your account.
Contact us if you need access to information that is not available through the product, or help correcting or deleting it.
Security and international processing
We use access controls, authenticated sessions, and other technical measures intended to protect your information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Keep access to your email and connected sign-in account secure, and tell us if you suspect unauthorized use.
Our service providers may process information in countries with different privacy laws from where you live. We use safeguards required by applicable law for international transfers. Contact us if you have questions about where your information is processed.
Your privacy choices and rights
You can update account information, edit your career materials, choose which optional features to use, and delete your account. Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; or appeal a decision about your request.
Email hello@rolebug.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity, and we will respond as required by applicable law. You can also raise a concern with your local privacy regulator.
Age requirements
RoleBug is intended for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.
Changes and contact
We will update the date on this page when this policy changes. For material changes affecting how we use your information, we will provide an appropriate notice, such as an email or an in-product message, and obtain consent if required.
